That morning I had stepped out of an historic building where I had slept the night before and into a sea of people making their way to work. Important- looking men dressed in black pressed suits hurried by and women strutted in expensive leather boots. The energy of the city and the cold air on my face were better than any cup of coffee. At 7:30 a.m. the city was awake.

I’m happy to have re-joined the WordPress community. You may also be wondering why I started a new page instead of picking up Diary of a Daydreamer again. The truth is, I logged in there earlier today with the intention of doing just that. However, after the amount of time that’s gone by and all the changes I’ve experienced in my life the last 3 years, the idea to start fresh just felt right.

I want to help my community and others like it be better, stronger, more prosperous, more connected, more real. I want to help neighbors reconnect with each other, find their common cause and go after it together. I want to help local governments, small businesses, non-profits and and public service organizations develop strategies and models that encourage a clear and strong community identity, one that attracts positive energy, and provides opportunities for all members to not just survive but to thrive, to grow, to prosper, and to dream about a future where their children can do even better than they did.

In part, this blogpost is some sort of catharsis; a justification to myself that it’s okay I didn’t move to Berlin in 2020, regardless of how many people I told about my plan or how much I wanted it. But moreso, it’s a championing of letting life do its thing. An oddly fitting side note to the Berlin saga is that I went to four broken photo booths in one day before finally finding one where I could get new passport pictures. The lord works in mysterious ways. When the tech company I was working for ran out of money and fired 300+ people at the start of April, I was on the cusp of a promotion (the latest juicy carrot I’d created for my donkeylike self to trod towards), so it was a pretty rubbish letdown. But, no pickaxes this time. I choose to be of the mindset that it wasn’t meant to be.

I’m a hopeless fucking romantic with a filthy mind and standards so high they require emotional intelligence, secure attachment, consistency, and the ability to survive my personality. I want depth. I want heat. I want softness.
