I want to find opportunities to work on something which includes everything I realized was important for me

A lot of the narratives that influence us online or in more conventional media are based on these stories of people who always knew what they wanted to do and proved to everyone that they were exceptional at it. Writers who always wanted to be writers, musicians that sold everything to pursue their dream since they couldn’t do anything else or people that created IT companies that turned into millions when they were teenagers. I mean, the pressure is huge! Unconsciously, the following question starts growing inside our brains: “why don’t I know what I want to be?”

Knowing your value and respecting your boundaries is knowing to say no to the things that will not add value to your life and not respecting your boundaries

So I’m glad in a way that while it’s quite a hard decision to make because I feel I’m letting go of another opportunity that could have been, it’s also a lesson and a reminder that while there are opportunities everywhere, not every opportunity is right for me.

Doing the things that we want to

Today I want to test out a new type of post. Here, I want to feature someone’s writing that isn’t exactly about wanting per se … but which (I feel) is nonetheless relevant to our collective interest in wants.

Through their hobbies they became the first modern scientists

I have things to share, things I want to delve into, things I am curious about

I want Dans Mon Crane to be all about my voice. What does that look like? It’s a space where lots of my [interests] meet and then expand into other directions. It’s a space where my archaeological background comes into play, where ritual and art witchery is centered, where Shadow Work and being brave is encouraged, where one month we can talk about vampires both from a fictional perspective and a scientific one and the next month talk about my favorite armour in Skyrim. And the tarot – there will always be the tarot.

I want to create worlds, I want to create people, and I want to create ideas

As a writer, I used the rather loose excuse that any additional experience was good, ultimately beneficial to my skill as a writer. Putting aside the general point that having a wide range of interests is generally beneficial for any lifestyle or career, it took me some time to realise that many of my interests related to one thing, that I ultimately want to express through my writing.

It’s kind of intimidating that I have to already start thinking about what I want to do for my career

I have to do it at one point or another. And this is very different from high school because I was never taking classes that I thought would be good for my career, I just took classes that interested me. There is a much bigger selection of classes in college than there is in high school, so I’m hoping that will be very good for me.
