I am not going to be retiring off of self publishing, so there’s no point in thinking about gold stashes or living the high life with it.

if all the work I do is free and I funnel everything in for no gain and I starve because I can’t pay bills or buy food, that would be pretty bad….. (probably an understatement)

In so many ways, flippers profit off of laziness — people don’t want to research an item’s true value and they don’t want to wait (either to find a good deal or sell something of their own). As a flipper, it’s not uncommon to buy an item, do literally nothing other than wipe it down and take a few pictures, then sell it on eBay for double or triple what you paid for it.

But here’s the raw truth: being a professional volunteer comes at a cost. Software subscriptions, stock photo subscriptions, etc. all cost money.

Unemployment has saved my ass this last year and a half. It’s made it possible to keep working on writing and music and pay the bills. I’ve been lucky, because it supplements gigs and record and book sales and tea towels and t-shirts I’ve printed and sold. I’m always hustling but unemployment made the hustle more benign, less stressful.

I believe that my unique perspective of being someone in their mid-20’s who is attempting to eventually go digital in work and international in life could be incredibly helpful to some of you who are in the midst of making your own big life choices and leaps of faith. My experiences living, studying, and working abroad have taught me a lot about how to navigate through unfamiliar situations, and I want to be there with concrete tools and advice for you if you’re finding that you’re in a similar boat now – whether you be going abroad or staying domestic! I also know from experience that making big leaps can be incredibly daunting, especially if the people you are closest to have not been through similar experiences or are not jumping for joy for you and your big changes ahead. Sometimes you just need an ear to listen and bounce ideas off of, someone who knows what you are going through because they’ve been there before, and most of all, a cheerleader on your side. If this service is one that sounds beneficial to you please don’t hesitate to go to my contact section and reach out to me via email for more information!

I am very good at what I do and as I do it more I will become even better and more and more people will want to work with me because more and more people will find out that the clothes I make are lovely, last a long time and make people feel awesome in them. Money is a funny thing. There is something about being grateful for what we have that increases and expands what we have. There is something about giving and sharing also that expands what we have. I [think] this realization about gratitude is important right now because I wonder if my worry and concern over money is actually preventing me from being fully grateful because I am always afraid I’m going to lose it.

This kind of lifestyle never really died out for me until my first year in college. In my head, I still thought that to be attractive to girls, you had to have a lot of money and spoil them. I thought that in order to be academically successful, you needed the best computer, the most expensive education. My parents hammered over and over again into my brain that in order to become successful, you had to be rich. It was all about the money.

I still have my opinions but I realise that life comes in many shades – my views may not be the most important or the most correct. Other than a few issues that matter to me, I have a more live-and-let-live attitude.
