Whenever we fulfill a goal, value comes from two outcomes: changes (usually gains) in resources and satisfaction

Gains in resources don’t have to be monetary — they can be in terms of knowledge and experience. Satisfaction comes from completing goals, and the feeling of that satisfaction differs by where it comes from. The deepest satisfaction comes from satisfying higher-order goals, goals that come from higher values like beauty, truth, and accomplishment.

I want others to read what I write or interact with me in the courses I teach and feel they have gained value or insight or seen things from a different point of view. Of course, if they are also entertained, all the better! But entertainment is not the primary goal.

I have a lot to tell. Pretty funny that I have just said that. For the longest time I believed that I had nothing interesting to say, that my life wasn’t as exciting as people thought. But I see that now, I have a pretty damn interesting life. From my childhood to my newly acquired adulthood. My stories will be both happy and sad. I prioritize my writing and thus make the time

I believe almost everyone has the time to write or read or garden or play video games. They likely don’t have the time to do all or maybe even a few of these things, but they have the time somewhere in the day if it is a high enough priority. If you want to write a novel or a short story, the time is there for the taking, but is it important enough to you to give up something else you might want to do? That is the real question in my mind.

The world needs all of the stories

I need to write what comes to me. What fills my heart. What feels most natural. And I know that reading has always been the buoy to keep me afloat during any difficult time. It’s been an escape. It’s been a joy. It’s been a place to go to. A way to be someone else. A way to relax and turn off if I need to. And I want to be those things for someone else. I want someone to pick my book up and sigh with relief. To feel comforted and at ease. And I know the way to do this is through the stories I have if I keep true to them. If I don’t let expectations or perceptions degrade them.
