I grew up in a small village in the South-West called Stoborough. Whilst I ended up branching out to the bigger areas such as Poole and Bournemouth, Stoborough will always have a special place in my heart because it played a massive role in the events that made me who I am today. It made me realise that, as crease as it sounds, there’s nothing stronger than people working together to make sure we’re all doing OK. Journalism presents me with the opportunity to do that every day and gives me the opportunity to do the right thing for the people who want to get their stories heard.

I learned about different audiences I will be writing to such as coworkers and vendors and clients. I learned about different types of documents I will be drafting such as emails and new hire paperwork and employee handbooks. I’ve thought a lot about my purpose for writing. In HR I’ve learned that you often aren’t simply writing to communicate information but also obtain information from your audience. An engagement letter from a law firm is not simply for the purpose of expressing your terms to represent a client, you’re also seeking their approval and acceptance of the deal, you need the audience to sign and return the document. An employee handbook isn’t just a book of rules and procedures for employees to follow, it’s also a place to express expectations for the employees and the organization and also a place to let marginalized employees know they are protected and safe at your organization.

I have found in coaching that reflection on your own thoughts is one of the most powerful tools of coaching. Knowing that someone isn’t trying to sway, influence or manipulate you helps you feel safe and reflect on what you really want. This happens through active listening. If I’m trying to push a rope, I’m wrapped up in my own agenda. When I am actively listening, I am making a safe space for someone to reflect.

Some of these might take days or even months to process and put into coherent words. I’m still learning and making up my mind about so many things. So, rather than forcing myself to write something that isn’t ready, I figured I’ll finally pay attention to the one idea that has come to mind time and time again. Afterall, any writing serves growth. So, I have roughly two and a half months left in Poland before I leave, which means I want to visit as many places as possible before then. I know that my journey does not end here, I will face more situations in the future. I am really glad to meet all those inspiring people. They really helped me a lot and I can say that I have also gained my confidence back. Hearing all those stories and getting ideas from them really helped me to be more confident to face my future. My beginning starts here and I hope that I can do my best. No, I will do my best. I want to achieve all my goals in life. I want to live a life where I regret nothing and I want to keep on fighting. I will keep on fighting because that is the only way for me to win. I need to win thousands of fights in order to reach all of my dreams. All those stories will stay in my heart and I will take them as a lesson. I am not afraid anymore; I will keep on fighting until the end. I will live my life to the fullest.
