I want people to know that luck didn’t get me here

I made a conscious choice for my current lifestyle in 2013. Although, most of my life I have had a goal of living life abroad even for a short time. I started to put this goal in motion in 2012 by researching ways to live/work abroad. Teaching English seemed to be the best option for me, and in January 2013 I started classes with the University of Miami of Florida to get my Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certification or TEFL. The course was more intense than I expected and along with working full time, it consumed much of my after-work energy. That TEFL certification was the first step in finding a teaching job abroad. Of all the cities, in all the world I have for most of my life dreamed of living in Paris. So, that is where I started.

There are local people in the park like pubs. For example, parents and children who play with balls or run through park and old people who have walks or young people who run on the road in the park.

A little bit more in the way of ambient noise would at least convince me I wasn’t a complete loner

I suspect this post makes me sound like a grumpy city-dweller. Maybe I am, at heart. One day I will return to the lovely streets of London and ignore everyone and bask in its noisy chaos. For now, I will brush up on my smiles (at least they can only see my eyes) and cheeriest ‘bonjour’ to dole out to the locals, in case they do fancy making friends with one of the local foreigners.

My family home has taught me how to love people even while not really liking them in the moment, how to apologize for something said in anger, how to recognize the importance of maintaining bonds and preserving relationships with those we really truly care about

The looming horizon of graduation and the end of this season of my life, then college and moving away and the beginning of an entirely new season, has really pushed me to consider what I care about here, and how I’m going to take that with me into the rest of my life.
