After years of working in university newspapers and literary magazines, I ended up learning how to write in an unexpected, cutthroat industry: advertising. It’s exhausting on a day-to-day basis, but when you’re surrounded by the right people, it can be really fun! As a writer, I used the rather loose excuse that any additional experience was good, ultimately beneficial to my skill as a writer. Putting aside the general point that having a wide range of interests is generally beneficial for any lifestyle or career, it took me some time to realise that many of my interests related to one thing, that I ultimately want to express through my writing.
