When I was in elementary school, I wanted to be an author. When I realized how many words you have to write to fill an entire book, I decided I couldn’t. For years, there was a little voice in the back of my mind, urging me toward writing. But the voice that told me I wasn’t good enough, that I would never get anywhere, that it was a waste of time … that voice was louder.

I look out of the window, wondering what it would be like to live an ordinary life. As the coach leaves the town I catch tantalising glimpses of other people’s lives, hanging out the washing, hoisting up the sheets to flap like sails. A young woman pushes her baby buggy purposefully, several Sainsbury’s bags hanging from the handle. Presumably she has a home to go to and an identity, she is a mother.

There is so much stress in the “failure is not an option” mindset. Stress to be perfect. Stress to get it all right. Stress to impress. Stress to be the best. But what if you walk into the store and choose the wrong can of green beans? Do you just keep them or do you go back and exchange them, all the while knowing other shoppers will point and say “oh look he chose the wrong green beans” and call you a failure then launch tomatoes at you. Dramatic! I know! However, that’s been my story a few times. No one threw tomatoes at me but I have chosen the wrong direction in life. Not everything I Thought i heard from God ended up being God. I’ve made some pretty stupid mistakes. Do you keep the wrong green beans just to avoid being labeled that scary word “failure?” My personal opinion is to own the failure and move on.

I lovvveee books (obviously). I developed a new-found love for writing as a way to liberate the excess noise and weight I’ve always felt and carried. To pour on paper what goes on in my head (people call me quiet but I’ve realised I actually do love talking sometimes. It’s just very tiring to have to open my mouth to do that). I also love enforcing discipline in my life for as long as I can since realising I wasn’t really a disciplined person. Lastly, I really like music, dancing, drawing, and photographing whatever my eyes find worthy. I mostly like keeping to myself too lol.
