Then it suddenly hit me, and the realizations came pouring in. It was not anything else or some kind of mysterious force out there in the universe that was stopping me from writing; it was myself. Along the way, I created this absurd standard that filtered the way I write–or should write, in this case. I forced myself to believe that thoughts, emotions, and opinions had to meet some sort of standard of validity before they deserved to be put into words. It made me think that each word must be worthy of its existence. Because of that, I have hesitated to write anything that would eventually reflect what I truly felt. This is probably why I was so afraid of writing something so pure, raw, and genuine, not because it merely expresses my pain, but because it immortalizes the pain. It makes it more of a reality to confront, it makes it undeniable, and leaves a mark etched in a place where my fingers can trace.

I let the children lead me. Emergent curriculum at it’s best! And it definitely prevents burnout or boredom. Here’s the thing – when there is a great moment, even on a terrible day, I go home and write about it, because it is all those little, great moments that are the most important. Events have been in my wheelhouse for as long as I can remember. From a young age, I was always fascinated at how they came together. Whether it was a sports banquet, graduation party, career fair, marathons, festivals, or holiday get togethers, I was on the sidelines taking in as much as I could to understand all that went into putting that event on. But what a lot of us in the industry learn to know, is that there is a lot of hard work happening behind closed doors. We like to call this the iceberg effect. Its where all the blood, sweat, and sometimes tears are happening beneath the surface, but above the surface you always see beauty and perfection.

This year is something I’m so excited about. My blog is up and running, it’s something I’ve wanted to do for myself for so long but never found the time for, and so many lovely things are happening in our lives. Our twins turn three in March, and that’s something I cannot wait for. They start school soon, so they’re going to grow and change, and we’re going to have more focused time to work so we can focus more on the kids when we’re done. I want to inspire others to let their light shine. I want to be so authentically me that the people who knew the programmed version of me don’t even recognize me anymore. I want to inspire people I meet to wake up and allow their authentic selves to come out. To stop hiding through fear & to break out of the facade. I know that all I can do is be myself and to stop allowing my fear to hold me back. Only then will I end up exactly where I’m meant to be. Only then can I truly accept myself and love myself exactly as I am. If I mold myself to be what I think others expect of me, I’m not helping myself or anyone else.
