one reason I gained weight — nearly 100 pounds since then — is that I wanted desperately to disappear. I wanted to fade into whatever room I was in, as interesting or appealing as an old throw rug. Rationally, I know that can’t happen because statistically well over 50% of women experience sexual assault and 81% have experienced harassment (according to the CDC), so women are targets regardless of appearance. Rationally, I know that, but I still feel how I feel.

As a teenager and young adult, I wanted to be a writer [but] it became apparent that I did not have the dedication or talent to become a published author

[Stories] have been told through the generations and because they focus on human emotions and failings they are as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago

I want someone who can handle my chaos without trying to shrink it

I was trying to convince myself I was happy, that I was where I wanted to be, where I should be — despite every instinct in my body telling me otherwise
