An announcement in a recent edition of the Oban Times caught my eye. Sitting alongside adverts for funeral directors and a memorial sculptor was “a respectable matrimonial notice.” This wasn’t someone declaring the happy news of their marriage. Rather, it belonged to a 32-year-old American lady who was besotted with the idea of marrying a Scotsman and had placed a personal ad in the local newspaper.

I want to wait a little while and think about what to say

Just what is my blog about? Where is it now and where is it going? I suppose I could call it a hegira, along the lines of Anne Sexton. But it’s gone beyond my personal life— or so I hope— to be more of a social commentary. I wish for my writing to be that good, and possibly turn some heads around. I never used to consider myself wise enough to make any kind of criticism of my culture, but maybe I’m evolving just as my blog is. So we see that writing is a process of transformation, which Anne Sexton also covered. It is a personal thing, but also a social thing. For, every individual’s life makes sense only in the context of its society… and at the same time, individuals construct society by means of language and writing. Sounds like Karl Marx a bit, but I guess the Marxists have a point.

I wanted to feel wanted, seen and emotionally close to another person

There is something strangely freeing about finally being able to separate the person from the need. Because the need itself wasn’t wrong. Wanting closeness wasn’t the mistake. Wanting genuine intimacy wasn’t the mistake. I simply attached those completely human needs to somebody who happened to arrive while I was vulnerable and appeared, initially at least, to be offering what I was missing.

I said YES, because training and eating clean made me who I am, BUT from my 26 years old I wanted MORE than being a well trained machine, a sculpted body. I wanted to travel, meet people, have a broader view of options for my future and career. Because I know in the future I might regret it. And those things dont come knocking at your door, not even at the gym’s one lol. So now I’m working on keeping my “dark side” under control, not feeling miserable if I’m not doing 6 cardio a week but 4-5, or if I’m traveling and training won’t be perfect, or if for a night or two I won’t be sleeping, because I will gain something else: memories, life experiences, interesting conversations and meetings, friendship. And I will still be my personal best, just more “complete”.
