Authors need to be able to focus on writing and improving their writing. Both prior any start to the publishing process and during it. They should be getting detailed, good quality feedback at all stages, but it really doesn’t seem like these things are happening. Books should go through multiple rounds of edits with different editors, and non-marketing staff shouldn’t be expected to take on the marketing. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like any of this is going to happen anytime soon, and it makes me wonder exactly how much longer readers will put up with such poor quality before losing interest completely.

It is so easy to get overwhelmed by the marketing and publicity process, and as an author those skills aren’t necessarily in line with your greatest strengths. But they are necessarily if you want to get your books out there. It may cause you to drift away from the act of writing, and I have realized just how important it is to keep writing in amongst all the business. To have a piece that does not have a deadline, maybe not even a purpose, just something that allows you to express your love for the written word, and have fun. To stay in touch with the reason why you are doing all the other stuff in the first place.

As a person with several mental health issues, I want people to know they are not alone, there is help. It is kay to talk about it and things you are going through. We lose people every day to mental illness and it needs to stop being so hushed and thrown in the dark corner of a room.

I often think of the quote “nobody is perfect”, and that is true to all individuals. Even if we have imperfections, we should opt to always try our best and aim for the best version of ourselves. Be humble, kind and admit one’s mistakes and own them. Acknowledgement of one’s mistake shows integrity as a person.

You might want to grab a cuppa for this one, because Imma take you on a bender with a long arc and it will probably be night time before we return home!
I distinctly remember becoming aware of how this is actually a violation of Jesus’ “Golden Rule” — in other words: we ought to listen to others, much in the same way that we want others to listen to us.

Well, so I see that other blog post as the introduction to my topic here today, so if you haven’t seen it, then please hop on over and check it out (it opens a new page, so it’s absolutely no problem at all to get back here 😉 ). And it’s not terribly long, either.
My hunch (also known as a hypothesis) is that few bloggers read other blogs and probably fewer interact in a significant way. Mind you: I said bloggers — let alone the general population (who hardly seem aware that the internet exists beyond the realm of Google & Amazon & Netflix (wait a second — is that the INTERNET, too?). Marketers will trample all over anything that sounds even remotely social, but marketing is different than what regular folks do — isn’t it?
Still — none of these folks, whether regular or normal or abnormal or whatever, do much more than dip their toes in. Balls deep? Are you kidding me?
Before I make a short story long, let me cut to the chase. During the 4 weeks of the advent season leading up to Christmas, I plan to entertain different aspects of this question (“How many writers and bloggers apply the Golden Rule to writing and blogging?”) … and maybe I will even manage to arrive at some sort of conclusion before the year ends (hopefully we will not all be lost forever, right?).
